A comparison between modal damping ratios identified by NExT-ERA and frequency domain impact test
In this research, the modal parameters of a beam in free-free condition are extracted by performing different experiments in laboratory. For this purpose, two different techniques are employed. The first methodology is considered as a time domain method in Operational Modal Analysis. While the other one is frequency domain impact hammer test which is categorized as an Experimental Modal Analysi...
The Effect of Water Hammer on Pressure Increases in Pipelines Protected by an Air Vessel
Original scientific paper In the pipelines of water supply systems, the water hammer phenomenon often arises during rapid unsteady developments. Pipelines are mostly protected using an air vessel, which is designed by means of equations for oscillations of water mass. In this study, an analysis is made of the impact of pressure increases caused by water hammer on pressure variations in pipeline...
INVERSE FREQUENCY RESPONSE ANALYSIS FOR PIPELINES LEAK DETECTION USING THE PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION
Inverse Transient Analysis (ITA) is a powerful approach for leak detection of pipelines. When the pipe transient flow is analyzed in frequency domain the ITA is called Inverse Frequency Response Analysis (IFRA). To implement an IFRA for leak detection, a transient state is initiated in the pipe by fast closure of the downstream end valve. Then, the pressure time history at the valve location is...
Detection of Fouling in Heat Exchangers using Model Comparison
Fouling of heat exchangers is a severe problem in the industrialized world. The effects of fouling are reduced energy efficiency and increased greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, any heat transfer process has a risk of fouling on the heat transfer surface. The fouling can in some cases be cleaned physically, chemically or burned off; in other cases it may not be possible to clean the heat exchan...
Influence of Surface Preparation Method on the Concrete Rebound Number obtained from Impact Hammer Test
For concrete strength detection in structures different testing procedures are being used. For nondestructive testing of concrete strength built in the construction the most used impact hammers in technical practice are those of Schmidt system. The hammer rebound value on concrete is influenced by number of factors, these includes the treatment of the test area. In the article there are present...
